There are three War Memorials at this location, in a shady public garden secluded from the nearby road.
Perhaps the most interesting is a stone column supporting an iron-framed, octagonal gas lamp, which is always lit. On the stone base is a plaque commemorating the men who worked at Bromley-by-Bow Gasworks who died in the two World Wars. This monument is Grade II listed. The inscription is as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WWI:
THESE MEN DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY
1914 - 1919
THE GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY
WW2:
TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE MEMBERS OF THE
COMPANY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR
OF 1939 - 45
REQUIESCANT IN PACE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alongside the gas lamp are two further memorials, which hold duplicate plaques. To the left is a columned rotunda, with benches and carved with intricate details. The centrepiece is a large stone tablet.
Completing the memorial garden is a statue of Sir Corbett Woodall, Governor of the Gas Light and Coke Company from 1906-16. This statue, and possibly the gaslight memorial are believed to have been moved to this location from the nearby Beckton Gas Works.
