This memorial to a veteran from Norwalk is located on the Norwalk River in South Norwalk, near the Maritime Aquarium and the pavilion overlooking the river. It is surrounded by a small garden and is next to a flagpole.
The plaque says:
In Honor of
Spc. Wilfredo Perez, Jr.
of Norwalk, CT
who lost his life in Ba'qubah, Iraz
while guarding a children's hospital
on July 26, 2003
The monument itself is a black polished granite marker. On top of it are bronze sculptures, very realistically depicting his helmet, boots, and gun. On the side of the marker is an etched portrait of Spc. Wilfredo Perez, Jr.
