The Middleburg Baptist Church was a shared church between multiple denominations from the time it was built in 1844 to 1954 when the other denominations were able to build their own facilities. The church was designed in the style of a federal-style building and had separate front doors for men and women. Enslaved members entered the two side doors that led to the balconies (which now lead to the extension). Today the church is open to all men and women, regardless of race.
Note: While there is no gender labels above the doors (long since removed), the nearby Civil War Trail marker provided evidence.
