Eklund Hotel - Clayton, NM - Antique Hotels on Waymarking.com

This hotel was built in 1892 of quarried stone. At that time Clayton was a major commercial hub for the local ranchers and it was common to have cowboys shooting up the bar. Times have changed and the focus is now on travelers passing through to some place else. The Eklund continues to provide rooms and the dining room and bar still have their original furnishings. Hotel service actually began in 1894. In 2004 the building was totally renovated and hotel service continues. Room rates have changed from the original $2 to $105 a night.
