The Neo-Classical style marble Academy building consists of a central block with two wings. A group of six Ionic columns support the sculptured pediment by Leonidas Drosis above the portico entrance. The two major sculptures on high pedestals are on the right the Greek god Apollo, who among his many attributes is the god of sun and light, music and poetry, prophecy and knowledge. On the left is the goddess Athena, she is the goddess of both wisdom and warfare. The seated statues that flank the staircase are on the left Plato and on the right Socrates.
