17th Street Bridge -Altoona, Pennsylvania - Active Rail Locations on Waymarking.com

This bridge crosses over the Norfolk Southern Mainline at the Alto Switch house. The bridge has pedestrian walkway on both the east and west sides offering a good view of train traffic along the Harrisburg Pittsburgh Mainline. There is a 1/2 mile straight section of track that has a couple of switches and a passenger station within the viewing area.
The opportunity to catch an Amtrak passenger or a mixed freighter is always good here. Trains of 100 or more hoppers full of coal, though not as common as a few years ago, still run through on the eastbound track.
