The sign next to the marker says, "Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.), is located in Georgia in the Chattahoochee National Forest. In 1958, the southern terminus of the A.T. was moved approximately 14 miles north from Mt. Oglethopr. Springer, with its wilder surroundings and unspoiled view, was depend a more fitting beginning to the Appalachian Trail.

A bronze plaque, bolted into rock, welcomes visitors to the first northbound white blaze marking the A.T. The hiker on the plaque was modeled after Warner Hall, an early Georgia Appalachian Trail Club leader. A register in a rock nearby gives hikers a chance to record their names and significance of their first or final step."
