Finn Ronne and Edith Maslin "Jackie" Ronne were Antarctic Explorers. Finn was a part of two of Richard E. Byrd's expeditions to Antarctica discovering a thousand miles of coastline . In the 1940's with the support of the American Geographic Society, he returned with his wife for the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition where they mapped the last unknown coastline on earth. It was the first expedition to take women over-winter. Jackie was a part of the expedition as a recorder, historian and correspondent with the North American Newspaper Alliance. During his life, Finn wrote several books on polar exploration with the assistance of his wife who kept journals during their expedition together. Notable items named after the couple: The Finn Ronne Memorial Award - for noted accomplishments in polar field research. The Ronne Ice Shelf was named after Jackie.
