These two quotes from Sacred Scripture are etched in stone at the entrance to All Souls Cemetery on Chardon Road (Route 6) in Chardon, Ohio.

The first is from the Apocalypse of Saint John (also known as the book of Revelation), chapter 21, verse 4. It says, "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more." This is from the section of the book when Saint John is describing his vision of the New Jerusalem.

The second quote is from Saint Paul's first epistle to the Thessalonians, chapter 4, verse 13. It says, "But we would not, brethern, have you ignorant concerning those who are asleep, lest you should grieve, even as others who have no hope."

Both of these verses are appropriate for those who have suffered the loss of a friend or family member to meditate on, as Saint Paul went on to say in the same epistle to the Thessalonians, "comfort one another with these words" (4:18).
