In 2005 and 2007, storms were the cause of large areas of forest being destroyed in Sweden, including here in the area.
In 2007, Carl Von Linnaeus' 300th anniversary was celebrated in Växjö. In connection with the anniversary and storms destruction of the forest, arises the idea of creating a Aboretum in the devastated forest. This took a few years and in 2012 Linnaeus' Aboretum was inaugurated.
More than 150 different forest plants from around the world can be seen i the area. The plants are divided by continents.
In this Aboretum there is also a pavilion with posters describing the plants. Where they originally come from as well as their characteristics. Benches have been set up around the area so you can sit and enjoy the plants.
Linné (Linnaeus) associated with Växjö in his early years, when from 1716 he was taught at the local school and later at the high school.
