Molly Stark Sanatorium opened on August 23, 1929 and was one of 25 Tuberculosis Hospitals in Ohio. Architect Albert Thayer of New Castle, Pennsylvania designed the Spanish Revival facility.
On October 19, 1952 the east and west wings were added plus a laundry and kitchen which increased capacity from 128 beds to 230 beds.
By the 1950's advances in antibiotics the need for a tuberculosis hospital waned.In 1956 the name was changed to Molly Stark Hospital.The last tuberculosis patients were transferred J. T. Nist nursing home.
Molly Stark Hospital continued to operate until 1995 and was closed due to declining patient numbers and ageing facility.
When the cost to upgrade the building was 10 million dollars no offers were offered. The Stark County Parks Board bought the hospital and property for 1 dollar. It opened a public park in April 2009.
