The memorial reminds the inhabitants of the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk of the crash of the Lancaster plane in the municipality on June 12, 1943.

The text on the monument reads:

FORCE. DEZE BOMMENWERPER WAS OP DE

DE STAD DÜSSELDORF NAAR DE THUISBASIS
IN BINBROOK, ENGELAND.
DE LANCASTER MK1 STORTTE NEER OP
DE PLEK VOOR U. ALLE ZEVEN BEMANNINGS-

IN THE EARLY MORNING OF JUNE
12TH, 1943, A ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR
FORCE LANCASTER WAS SHOT DOWN BY A
GERMAN NIGHT FIGHTER. THE BOMBER
WAS ON ITS RETURN TO THE HOME BASE IN
BINBROOK, ENGLAND AFTER COMPLETING A MISSION TOT THE CITY OF DÜSSELDORF.
THE LANCASTER MK1 CRASHED ON THE
LOCATION IN FRONT OF YOU. ALL SEVEN CREW
MEMBERS LOST THEIR LIVES.
