The country with the highest mortality rate caused by road traffic injury is Mauritius with 43.9 per 100,000 people in 2000. This is according to the World Health Organisation's World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention, released in April 2004 for data available for the most recent year between 1992-2002.
The country with the most fatalities caused by road deaths is the USA with 44,249 in 1999 (as reported in the same document)."
