The sign says, "As a guardian of Baltimore’s harbor, Fort McHenry is the site of the sucessful defense of the city by American Forces during the British attack on September 13–14, 1814 which inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Fort McHenry is one of over 300 sites administered by the National Park Service. Plan to begin your experience at the Visitor Center located in the brick building adjacent to the parking lot."
