The Helgeland stairway, which was inaugurated in 2019, has over 3000 steps.
From the start of the stairway to the top there are 350 altitude meters. However, the trip is 1 kilometer long, as the stairs are not a straight line, but have many turns.
The actual work on this stone stairway was started in 2017 and the work is done by Nepalese Sherpas. The large stones for the steps have been transported by helicopter. The steps are 2 meters wide so that 2-3 people can walk next to each other. Several places along the way, there are resting places.
Helgeland's stairway were opened by H. M. Queen Sonja on July 6, 2019. When the queen opened the stairs, she emphasized that the stairs fell naturally into the landscape.
At the foot of the stairway is an engraved stone, which marks the opening of that stairway with the over 3000 steps.
It's hard to walk up the stairs. Besides there are many steps, each step is also high. On the other hand, there are beautiful views over the city and river.
