This park was home to the public market for the American Sector, St. Mary’s Market. The market is long gone, replaced by sculptures and trees.

At the foot of the Diamond Street neutral ground five huge, grooved spheres, a sculpture by Terry Weldon dubbed Riverstones, frames the entrance to St. Mary’s Park. The park fills the neutral ground of Diamond Street for four blocks, from the Convention Center to Tchoupitoulas Street. At one time, each neighborhood in New Orleans had a public market located on a neutral ground. The only one still in operation is the French Market in Vieux Carre.
