This memorial, in the form of a sign, can be found at the south-eastern corner of Loch Leven in the old Scottish county of Kinross-shire, on the Heritage Trail, a 13 mile long walking and cycling circuit of the loch. It commemorates Sub Lieutenant Winston Vernon Stark of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, Fleet Air Arm, which was attached to the RAF, who tragically lost his life when his plane, a Hawker Hurricane, crashed into the loch during a training exercise on March 7th 1943.

The sign is situated on the lochside near a small sandy beach near Findatie and reads as follows:

'Here at Loch Leven on 7 March 1943, Sub Lieutenant Winston Vernon Stark, tragically lost his life during a training mission in a Hawker Hurricane aircraft. He was aged only 20 years.

Winston belonged to the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, Fleet Air Arm attached to the RAF advanced pilot training unit based at HMS Jackdaw in Crail.

We respectfully honour his ultimate sacrifice., defending world freedom and the country of his ancestors.'

The memorial was unveiled by Air Officer Scotland, Air Vice-Marshall Ross Paterson, on March 7th 2020.
