The bridge links the busy major Navigation Road with the Hungate area and Peasholme Green and provides a traffic free route.

The bridge was constructed to provide an area on the north bank of the River Foss that was being redeveloped.

The bridge was constructed on the banks of the river and then lifted into place by crane removing the need to close Navigation Road overnight. Since the bridge was listed into place a number of apartment blocks have been constructed on the north bank of the river.

The bridge is made of steel and has a length of 26 metres.
