Unfortunately, the opossum is one of the more common casualties that you'll find along the roads with the armadillos. While their "playing dead" routine is well-known, you're more likely to hear them hissing at you in the dark if you're outside after sundown. They're nocturnal, so that's when they're most active.
This sign provides a nice photo of a 'possum in a tree, along with a physical description and some background as to their eating habits, their activities, their capabilities, and their lifespans. Their paw prints are depicted as well: Compare them with the faux footprints you see in the pavement, giving the illusion that the nearby sculpture left them.
