In the courtyard in front of the Statens Naturhistoriske Museum is the impressive meteorite Agpalilik, which was found by the Danish scientist Vagn Buchwald. Agpalilik is a fragment of the famous iron meteorite Cape York, which fell in Baffin Bay in northwest Greenland more than 2,000 years ago. Agpalilik weighs approx. 20 tons and is cut across so that the researchers could study its structure. It is mounted on the sledge on which it was transported from the site to the coast.
