This sculpture is one of a series di Suvero did in honor of composers, including the towering "For Handel" at Western Washington University in Bellingham. With its gentle movements in the wind, "Schubert Sonata" is reminiscent of music. Before being installed at the Sculpture Park, "Schubert Sonata" was on view outside Benaroya Hall, home of the Seattle Symphony. In its setting near the Puget Sound, it reminded us of a flying fish.
It is constructed of partially painted steel and measures 22 feet by 10 feet. The sculpture was a gift of Jon and Mary Shirley, the Virginia Wright Fund, and Virginia and Bagley Wright.
