Malmbanan, which opened in 1888, is a 473 kilometer long railway line from Narvik in Norway to Luleå in Sweden. The mining company LKAB uses the railway to transport iron ore from the mines in Kiruna and Malmberget to the ports of Narvik and Luleå for export.
This ore wagon was donated by LKAB to the SJ Malmbanan on the occasion of the Malmbanan's 100th anniversary in 1988.
The mining company Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB) bought between 1950-1953 740 ore wagons of this type. The wagon can load 42 tons and has 3 axles.
