George Hunter was born in Alexandria in 1753 and went on to become a doctor. He spent his time in service as a surgeon in the Navy and cared for many sick and injured service members while with the Potomac Fleet. He took his time in service serious and negated other officer duties to care for the sick. He was lost at sea, making the ultimate sacrifice for what became the United States of America.
