The Viking Way is a long distance walking trail that is 147 miles (237 kilometres long. It stretches between Barton-on-Humber and Oakham and although it can be walked either way this cafe location is regarded as the start of the route.

The route is named the Viking Way because of a number of invasions in this area by Vikings between AD 763 and AD 1066.

The cafe is in a former coastguard station and is in a popular area for all types of visitors not just people walking the trail. There is a large car park next to it.

The sign is a round bronze design with a weather vane on top in the shape of a Viking Longship. Around the perimeter and inside the circle are a number of Viking symbols known as Runes but it's not clear whether they have any real meaning or purely an artistic design. However to make it plain where you are the words 'The Viking Way' are suspended from the bottom of the circle on a chain.

The cafe offers a take out service only, but there is a covered outside seating area.
