Douglas Park was opened in 1906 after Mr C.J.C. Douglas gifted land to Largs Town Council for a public park in the town that lies on the Firth of Clyde coast. The land was towards the south of the town and would comprise the Spring Gardens and the hill section of Haylie Estate.

In January 1947 work began on a bowling green at the bottom of Spring Gardens on the Irvine Road and would eventually open on August the following year.

The green is situated at the entrance to the park on the eastern side of the A78 Irvine Road. A pavilion is situated on the south-western corner.
