Jay Gould's private railway car
Atalanta is on display across the street from the Excelsior House in Jefferson. Ironic, as after the city fathers rejected his bid to pass his own railroad through town Gould famously wrote "the end of Jefferson" in the hotel register. The private parlor car has a luxurious interior with four staterooms, lounge, dining room, kitchen, butler’s pantry and ballroom. Tours are arranged through the hotel.
