Cynthia Saenz a commencé à sculpter en 2012. Elle peint depuis le temps de son enfance. « Je savais que j'allais devenir une artiste quand j'étais enfant », nous confie-t-elle. Quand elle a grandi, on lui disait qu'elle devait étudier pour survivre et de ne pas focaliser sur l'art. Les études ne pouvaient pas lui apprendre à être une artiste, alors elle l'a appris toute seule. Elle a commencé à participer à des expositions de peinture d'abord, puis elle s'est mise à sculpter avec des fils, du bois et de la pierre. « Et maintenant, je suis ici. »
L'oeuvre qu'elle est en train de produire se nomme « Petit cheval de fer ». Elle est intéressée par le thème du Symposium, car elle cherche un moyen de ramener le cheval au sein de l'histoire. Selon elle, la figure du cheval est désormais en marge de l'histoire. « Auparavant, les guerriers avaient besoin d'un cheval et maintenant, les gens les oublie », dit-elle pour mettre en exergue l'importance décroissante des chevaux dans la société contemporaine. D'où vient cet intérêt ? Cynthia Saenz aime les chevaux, aime monter en scelle ; elle avoue en avoir un. Partout où elle va, dans les expositions ou dans les symposiums, elle essaie de créer une oeuvre en lien avec les chevaux. Elle est d'ailleurs heureuse de se rendre compte qu'il y en a plusieurs dans la région. La sculpture en fil d'acier sur laquelle elle travaille est justement le descendant de cette race forte, intrépide, qui a marqué l'histoire de l'humanité.
