"The idea for the eye-catcher on the roof came from Birgit Kersten, vital teams manager at the nursing home. “Well, at first I thought of a giraffe. But that turned out to be complicated. And on reflection, we wanted something truly Eindhoven.”

Mark Elbers heard about the idea. “My wife works here,” he says. Birgit is her boss. I thought it was a great initiative and I work at DAF Trucks myself. I then looked for a DAF on Marktplaats and donated it to Vonderhof.”

Then it was up to the Vonder Boys to make the oldtimer presentable. Led by happiness consultant Richard van Schaijk and industrial artist Almar Sinte Maartensdijk, the men of the activity club for residents spent months sanding and cleaning.

Two suitcases and a children's tricycle are tied to the roof of the car. There are four dolls inside. The family seems to be heading for a happy holiday. Even the headlights are on."
