The Montana Elevator Company built the Accola elevator in 1914 along the Gallatin Valley Railroad, which ran from Belgrade to Menard. In 1919 the line was purchased by the Chicago Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad in order to transport a type of wheat known as "Turkey Red" to flour mills in the Gallatin Valley. The line shut down in 1978, and the elevator was used for storage until the mid-1980s. Today the landmark sits empty.
