Is het je ooit opgevallen dat koning Willem-Alexander en koningin Màxima op deze putdeksel in de Arnhemse binnenstad staan? Wij zochten uit hoe Arnhem aan dit bijzondere exemplaar komt.

Je vindt deze bijzondere putafdekking op de Weverstraat, ter hoogte van Iveau Burgers, als je naar het Audrey Hepburnplein lopt. Op de gietijzeren putdeksel staat in reliëf een afbeelding van Willem-Alexander en Màxima. Daaronder een kroontje in goudkleur en de cijfers 2013. Aquafix Milieu, een fabrikant van onder andere putdeksels, is het bedrijf achter het ontwerp en het idee van de bijzondere deksels. Het bedrijf ontwikkelde de putdeksels speciaal voor de troonswisseling die op 30 april 2013 plaatsvond en noemt ze ‘kroningsdeksels’.

Alle (bijna 400) gemeenten in Nederland hebben van Aquafix Milieu een exemplaar van de putdeksel gekregen. De bedoeling van het bedrijf was dat alle deksels op de dorps- of stadspleinen geplaatst zouden worden als herinnering aan de speciale gebeurtenis.

Het Kroningsdeksel is in Arnhem niet op het marktplein geplaatst. De deksel is geplaatst in de Weverstraat. Tot 2016 werd de markt wel gehouden vlakbij die Weverstraat, op het Kerkplein. Dit gedeelte van het Kerkplein ging grondig op de schop en kreeg als nieuwe naam het Audrey Hepburnplein.

Have you ever noticed that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Màxima are on this manhole cover in the city center of Arnhem? We found out how Arnhem got this special copy.

You will find this special manhole cover on Weverstraat, near Iveau Burgers, if you walk to Audrey Hepburnplein. The cast iron manhole cover has a relief image of Willem-Alexander and Màxima. Underneath a crown in gold color and the numbers 2013. Aquafix Milieu, a manufacturer of manhole covers, among other things, is the company behind the design and idea of the special covers. The company developed the manhole covers especially for the enthronement that took place on April 30, 2013 and calls them 'coronation covers'.

All (almost 400) municipalities in the Netherlands have received a copy of the manhole cover from Aquafix Milieu. The intent of the company was that all covers would be placed on the village or town squares as a reminder of the special event.

The Coronation Lid was not placed on the market square in Arnhem. The lid is placed in the Weverstraat. Until 2016, the market was held near Die Weverstraat, on Kerkplein. This part of Kerkplein was thoroughly overhauled and was given the new name Audrey Hepburnplein.
