This is a bronze survey monument disk, installed in concrete into bedrock at the top of a large stone cliff between Trans-Canada Highway 1 and a scenic view pull-off rest area.
Access to this benchmark is best accomplished from the south end of the rock bluff. A fence is present which can be used to assist climbing. USE CAUTION! This is not an easily accessible location! Once atop the rock, follow a worn path almost directly to the benchmark near the north end of the rock.
The disk inscribed with the unique identifier "91H0480." The monument is in good condition.
The description per the NRCAN database is as follows:
Accessible by passenger car or light truck and a walk of 50 to 500 m.
Station is located on scenic lookout on section of malahat highway. From victoria, drive 35.4 km north on trans-canada. Look for goldstream park at beginning of malahat highway, continue on until you pass a petro-canada station on the right hand side. From the gas station, scenic lookout is 7.1 km on the right hand side of the road. Also is 4.8 km from the turnoff to the south end shawinigan lake heading north. Station is located on top of north end of rocky bluff (cliff) between lookout and highway at the south end of bluff there is a trail. Trail leads to sta. Approx 30 m walk on the trail and is essentially the highest point on rocky bluff. May have a little difficulty getting security box up on bluff (steep climb). Marked by brass tablet set with concrete in bedrock. Established by b.c. Control survey.
