On the coast of the island of Gozo, various fossils can be found in the rocks, including sea urchins. The limestone dates from the Miocene and Oligocene (part of the Neogene and Paleogene periods). The layers on Malta slope to the northwest.

In caves, remains of hippos, dwarf elephants and other Pleistocene mammals have been found in the past.

The Natural History Museum in Victoria has exhibits on evolution, geology and fossils.

Gozo can be reached by boat from the main island. On the entire island of Gozo, and also on the main island, fossils can be found in the limestone near the coastal outcrops. i.a. Xwejni Bay.

Some layers are rich in fossil sea urchins, while in others only microscopic planktonic foraminifera can be found. Most rocks are quite hard. The sea urchins usually quickly disintegrate into fragments.

Keep an eye on! Collecting fossils is officially prohibited in Malta.

When walking to the Azure window if saw a lot of fossils on the rocky ground.

The Azure Window was called Blue Window in Dutch. This wondrous rock by the sea on the island of Gozo, next to the main island of Malta, was particularly beautiful. Wind and weather have punched this hole in the rocks.

The natural arch was a pretty sight, especially with the bright blue water surrounding it. The Azure Window was about fifty meters in size and became increasingly larger due to erosion from wind and sea. Until the storm destroyed everything.

You can easily walk to where the natural arch once stood. On the bottom are numerous fossils such as starfish.

What kinds of fossils are found here:
I am not an expert but i am pretty sure i found some sea urchins. for the rest it is difficult to define exactly what the fossils there are because most are no longer intact.
