Langs een fietspad ligt een grote ruwe steen met daarop een kleine gladde zwarte steen. Dit werk is onderdeel van een beeldenroute die de stad verbindt met de Hoge Veluwe en het Kröller-Muller Museum. Totaal markeren twaalf steenformaties van Adri Verhoeven deze route. Het is onderdeel van een fietsroute die in het centrum van Ede start tot aan Otterlo gaat en weer terug.

Adri Verhoeven heeft in dit werk met veel tegenstellingen gewerkt: ruw en glad, groot en klein, licht en donker. Door deze tegenstellingen krijgt de kleine zwarte granieten steen alle aandacht. Daglicht heet deze steenformatie. De kleur zwart neemt alle lichtstralen op. De zwarte steen kan beschouwd worden als de belichaming van al dit licht.

Verhoeven was zijn hele leven lang al geboeid door stenen. Hij heeft een groot respect voor de natuurlijke uitstraling en kracht van de steen. Zijn kunstwerken stelt hij samen met ruwe en gepolijste stenen. Hij bewerkt de steen zorgvuldig, vormt ze tot een geheel en zoekt een plek in het landschap uit waar de stenen passen en betekenis krijgen.

Along a cycle path is a large rough stone with a small smooth black stone on it. This work is part of a sculpture route that connects the city with the Hoge Veluwe and the Kröller-Muller Museum. In total, twelve stone formations by Adri Verhoeven mark this route. It is part of a cycling route that starts in the center of Ede and goes to Otterlo and back.

Adri Verhoeven has worked with many contrasts in this work: rough and smooth, large and small, light and dark. Because of these contrasts, the small black granite stone gets all the attention. This rock formation is called daylight. The color black absorbs all light rays. The black stone can be considered the embodiment of all this light.

Verhoeven had been fascinated by stones all his life. He has great respect for the natural appearance and strength of the stone. He composes his works of art with rough and polished stones. He carefully processes the stone, forms it into a whole and selects a place in the landscape where the stones fit and acquire meaning.
