The four, functional artworks utilize reclaimed materials, including
chalkboards, steel, cut metal, and concrete. These site-specific pieces pay
homage to the revitalization of the schools and the historic foundations on
which the neighborhoods and buildings were built. Designed using primary-
school geometry, the benches act as aesthetic design solutions, creating
intimate seating throughout the park for viewing smaller sculptures.
Rick Weese, of Studio Rico Oeste, is a West Michigan artist who has maintained a home and studio in Holland, Michigan, for over 16 years. A functional sculptor, his work can be found in private and public collections, including the interior bar and exterior beer garden at New Holland Brewery.
