The family of the Freiherren von Spiegel and von Mengersen already settled around 1400 to Rheder. She managed the goods of the Diocese of Paderborn and the ladies' cloister Neuenheerse. The village of Rheder was first mentioned by 1120 documents.
On July 2, 1686, Christian Falcko Freiherr von Mengersen, owner of the Rittergut Rheder, was awarded the right of the Fürstbishop of Paderborn and securitized to brew beer and sell it in Rheder. The Schloßbrauerei Rheder remained 328 years in family ownership of the frauds of mirrors and meals.

The brewing water for Schloßbräu Rheder Pils comes from the nearby Nethe nature reserve, below the Sieseberg. The brew barley is processed on site. Brewmaster of the company is Joachim Corves.
Every year, the Gräflich von Mengersen'sche Dampfbrauerei Rheder brew 30,000 hectoliters of beer and fills about 5 million bottles.
