"The first mentions of a bridge on the current site of the Pont Saint-Georges date back to modern times: the fifth and penultimate bridge over the Isle at the eastern end of Puy-Saint-Front, it was destroyed in the 18th century . Work to erect the Saint-Georges bridge, at that time called Pont Neuf, began in 1756. During the digging of its causeway, many medals dating from Roman times were discovered. Separating the Faubourg Saint-Georges (on the left bank of the Isle) from the rest of the city, it was completed in 1767.

Of the six bridges that cross the Isle at Périgueux, only four are still standing in the first half of the 19th century. The Pont Neuf took the name of Pont Saint-Georges in the middle of the 19th century.

The Saint-Georges bridge was widened in 1953."
