Yes, that is a real cannonball stuck in the side of a brick building in downtown Elizabethtown, Kentucky. There were several skirmishes and other actions here as the US Civil War unfolded in the areas around this part of Kentucky, despite the state's official status as neutral in the conflict.
Travelers traveling the Dixie Highway the 1920s would see the Civil War Cannon ball that still remains on the side of this building today. A metal sign points out the cannon ball, and gives just a little snippet of its histor::
