A baptismal font or baptismal basin is a water basin that is used for the storage of the baptismal water and the administration of the baptism. The basin can be made of wood, stone or metal. Glass is also used as a material in modern buildings. The diameter changes from approximately 50 centimeters to one and a half meters.

The basin or vase, is serving as a receptacle for baptismal water in which the candidate for baptism is immersed, or for receiving the water, which is poured over the head, in the ceremony of Christian initiation.
