This 'Welcome to Danbury' sign is located Hwy 8 & 89 entering from the south into Danbury, North Carolina. Danbury is designated as a 'National Historic District' with forty four buildings, both business and residential, built between 1860 and 1930. The architecture of the buildings include Romanesque Revival, Queen Anne, and Bungalow. The town started out with the name Crawford and was renamed Danbury (after the Danbury Bluffs on the Dan River) in 1852. It has been the county seat for Stokes County since 1851.
