This machine was used in the production of block ice, in an ice and steam plant built by Andrew Jackson Zilker in 1904. Zilker once live in Austin and owned property around Barton Springs, hence the name "Zilker Park" for that area. In Llano his plant stood across the river and slightly upstream from this location, where the tall smokestack still in place carries his initial, "AJZ 1918". Electricity was also generated there and sold to the citizens of Llano.
