De Waterkrachtcentrale Maurik werd in 1988 gebouwd door de PGEM (overgegaan in Nuon, het huidige Vattenfall) direct ten zuiden van het Stuw- en sluizencomplex Amerongen. De stuw in de Nederrijn bij Amerongen zorgt voor een hoogteverschil van maximaal 4 meter en daar maakt de Waterkrachtcentrale Maurik gebruik van. Deze centrale heeft een vermogen van 10 MW opgewekt door 4 Kaplan waterturbines, ieder gekoppeld aan een generator van 2530 kW. Jaarlijks produceert de centrale gemiddeld 20-24 GWh elektriciteit. Dat is genoeg voor ongeveer 7.000 huishoudens

The Maurik hydroelectric power plant was built in 1988 by the PGEM (now Nuon - Vattenfall) directly to the south of the Amerongen weir and lock complex. The dam in the Lower Rhine at Amerongen creates a difference in height of up to 4 metres, which is used by the Maurik hydroelectric power station. This power station has a capacity of 10 MW generated by 4 Kaplan water turbines, each connected to a 2530 kW generator. On average, the power station produces 20-24 GWh of electricity annually. That is enough for approximately 7,000 households.
