Na een missie boven Duitsland werd de Amerikaanse bommenwerper "San Antonio Rose" van de 95th Bomb Group, 336h Bomb Squadron op zijn terugreis naar Groot Brittannië neergeschoten door Duitse jachtvliegtuigen.
Bij deze crash kwamen acht van de tien bemanningsleden om het leven. Bij de onthulling van het monument waren nabestaanden van de bemanningsleden aanwezig.

After a mission over Germany, the American bomber "San Antonio Rose" of the 95th Bomb Group, 336h Bomb Squadron was shot down by German fighter planes on its way back to Great Britain.
Eight of the ten crew members were killed in the crash. Relatives of the crew members were present at the unveiling of the monument.
