De kerk in Schaijk is in de nacht van maandag op dinsdag (mei 2017) opnieuw doelwit geworden van koperdieven. Volgens een lid van de locatieraad van de parochie is het al de derde of vierde keer in korte tijd dat dieven het gebouw op de korrel namen.

De dieven hebben het met name voorzien op de koperen regenpijpen die bij de restauratie zijn aangebracht. De politie heeft op Facebook een oproep gedaan aan getuigen om zich te melden.

Toen ik de kerk bezocht in december 2020 waren de regenpijpen nog aanwezig. Misschien zijn ze toch van koperen leidingen overgestapt naar andere minder kostbare metalen. Ik heb niet kunnen vinden dat de daders gepakt zijn, wel dat andere kerken in Noord-Brabant het slachtoffer zijn geworden van deze bende.

In the night from Monday to Tuesday (May 2017), the church in Schaijk has again become the target of copper thieves. According to a member of the parish's site council, it is the third or fourth time in a short time that thieves have targeted the building.

The thieves mainly targeted the copper drainpipes that were installed during the restoration. The police have called on witnesses on Facebook to come forward.

When I visited the church in December 2020, the downspouts were still there. Maybe they've switched from copper pipes to other less precious metals after all. I have not been able to find that the perpetrators have been caught, but that other churches in North Brabant have become victims of this gang.
