This plaque is located in Port McNicoll, Ontario on Bayview Avenue at Patterson Park. The plaque details Ontario's First Quarry, which quarried limestone from this area in 1639. The limestone was used by fur traders for walls, fire places and Altar Base by Master Mason Pierre Tourmente.

PLAQUE TEXT:
"ONTARIO'S FIRST QUARRY

ALTHOUGH PORT MCNICOLL
WAS NOT FOUNDED UNTIL 1912
AS THE EASTERN TERMINUS OF
THE C.P.R. UPPER LAKES STEAMSHIPS,
ITS LIMESTONE WAS QUARRIED
IN 1639 FOR STE. MARIE I,
WESTERN TERMINUS OF THE 800 MILE
FUR TRADE ROUTE FROM QUEBEC.
TRANSPORTED BY WATER THREE MILES,
ALONG THE SHORES OF GEORGIAN BAY
AND UP THE WYE RIVER,
THE LIMESTONE WAS USED
IN BASTION WALLS, FIREPLACES
AND THE ALTAR BASE
BY FRENCH MASTER MASON
PIERRE TOURMENTE."
