On trouve mention de l’église de Nédonchel dés le XII ème siècle. A l’époque elle faisait partie du diocèse de Thérouane. Les registres nous apprennent qu’en 1179, le pape Alexandre III confirma à l’église de Thérouane la possession de l’autel de Nédonchel. Depuis le XVII ème siècle 17 pasteurs se sont succédés à la cure dont le dernier, l’abbé Jean Louis VANVINCQ.
Architecture
L’église Saint-Menne a la forme d’une croix latine. Elle se compose d’un cœur, d’une nef et d’un transept, soutenus par des contreforts. Le chœur a un chevet à trois pans.
Les fenêtres ogivales, garnies de vitraux récemment restaurés, sont renforcés par des meneaux en pierre (Un meneau est un élément vertical en pierre de taille qui devise la baie d’une fenêtre ou d’une porte).
La clef de voute est datée de 1617. Le plafond de la nef, de style gothique flamboyant, a des liernes et tiercerons (Le terme de lierne désigne deux nervures qui viennent s’ajouter aux ogives d’une voute et les tiercerons rencontrent les liernes au tiers de leurs longueurs, d’où le nom).
Dans le cœur se trouve une pierre tombale bleue. On y distingue péniblement l’effigie, en rond de bosse (Technique de sculpture en trois dimensions) d’un chevalier, revêtu de son armure et sa femme à ses cotés. Au dessus de la tête de l’homme se trouve un casque et un écusson sur celle de sa femme.
On remarque dans la chapelle du transept de droite, dite de st Antoine, une moulure suivant la voute et formée de feuillages et enroulement qui relèvent d’un joli travail de sculpture et un très bel autel en bois sculpté, don de la baronne de Hautecloque lors de la restauration de 1862.
La chapelle gauche est consacrée à Notre Dame de la Miséricorde. Elle est entourée d’Abraham prêt à sacrifier son fils Isaac.
Une plaque en marbre porte l’inscription « Famille Guffroy ». La clé de la voute de cette chapelle porte l’inscription « Chapelle bâtie par Guffroy-Pigouche, l’an 1862 » Sous la chapelle, accessible par un petit escalier, se trouve un caveau en brique vouté. On y trouve les sépultures des membres de la famille Guffroy-Pigouche, très influente à Nédonchel dans les années 1860.
Les trois cloches, fondues en 1887 et 1888, sont dues à la générosité du Docteur Guffroy.
L’entrée de l’église se fait par un porche en extension du bâtiment, habillé par des pilastres du XVIII ème siècle."
