This sculpture is an exact replica of the Double Check sculpture that is located in New York City. The original Double Check was located just outside the World Trade Center. It is a statue of a businessman checking his briefcase. Inside the briefcase are some papers and a calculator.
On 9/11 following the terrorist attacks, Double Check was covered in debris but otherwise unharmed. Many rescue workers stopped to see if the man on the bench covered in ash needed any help because they didn't realize at first that it was a sculpture.
This copy of Double Check is located inside the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts. It is gray and surrounded by papers and debris to represent the way that it looked on September 11.
