Aan de rand van de speeltuin bij de Godfried Bomansschool staat een beeld van Theo Schreurs. Het stelt twee figuren voor. Kinderen die spelen. Het ene kind met een hoedje van papier en een stokpaard en de ander met een vergiet op het hoofd en een schild dat lijkt op een deksel van een afvalemmer.

Theo Schreurs laat zien hoe rijk de fantasie is in de kinderjaren. En hoe met weinig middelen je als kind kon opgaan in je spel. Hij vertelt zelf hoe hij als klein jongetje met zijn broertjes en vriendjes gevochten had om het oude vergiet. Met het vergiet op je hoofd was je Julius Caesar!

Theo Schreurs is beeldhouwer te Deventer en maakt voornamelijk robuuste bronzen beelden. Hij heeft landelijke bekendheid gekregen door zijn bronzen buste van oud-premier Joop den Uyl. Aanvankelijk was zijn werk figuratief, maar hij is later zonder het realisme los te laten expressiever gaan werken.

At the edge of the playground at the Godfried Bomansschool is a statue of Theo Schreurs. It represents two figures. Children playing. One child with a paper hat and a hobby horse and the other with a colander on the head and a shield that resembles a lid from a waste bin.

Theo Schreurs shows how rich the fantasy is in childhood. And how with few resources you could lose yourself in your game as a child. He tells himself how as a little boy he had fought with his brothers and friends over the old colander. With the colander on your head you were Julius Caesar!

Theo Schreurs is a sculptor in Deventer and mainly makes robust bronze statues. He has become nationally known for his bronze bust of former Prime Minister Joop den Uyl. Initially, his work was figurative, but later he started to work more expressively without letting go of realism.
