In 1479 the Celle sisters had a small monastery built.Later the use of the monastery was shared with a group of Augustinian monks, who took over the monastery after the death of the last Cellezister. Around 1600 the Mariënhof got a new function, a Burgerweeshuis. The monastery kept this function for about 300 years.
A youth hostel was located in the monastery from 1929 to 1948.] After that, until about 1985 the National Service for Archaeological Soil Research was located in the monastery.
In the 1990s, the complex was put into use for catering.
