Memorial monument to Joan Tregarthin (1495 - 1583) in St Winifred's church, Branscombe.

"[The] memorial in Branscombe Church bears the figures of two kneeling men. Behind each of them a smaller figure of a lady surrounded by her children. The lady in each case represents Joan, with her children, the two large figures her husbands. On one side is her first husband, John Kelleway wearing an academic and ruff, behind him with Joan are nine daughters and five sons.On the other side kneels John Wadham, wearing armour, behind him with Joan are their four boys and two girls. The black slate inscription [reads] -

Here lieth intomb'd the body of a virtuous & antient Gentlewoman
descended of the antient House of the Plantagenets sometime of Corn-
wall namely JOAN, one of the daughters & heirs unto John Tregarthin
in the County of Cornwall, Esq. She was first married unto John Kelleway,
Esq., who had by her much issue. After his death she was married to John Wad-
ham of Meryfield in the County of Somerset, Esq., & by him had se-
veral children. She lived a virtuous and godly life & died in an honour-
able age, ___ September in the year of Christ 1583.
