Le 18 avril 1947, les Augustines de la Miséricorde de Jésus décident de prêter à la ville de Roberval un terrain dans le but d’ériger une statue au Christ-Roi. Le monument fut financé par
une souscription auprès des robervalois et des paroisses avoisinantes.
La sculpture représente un Christ-Roi tenant un sceptre d’une main et un globe dans l’autre. On peu également voir une référence au roi Saint-Louis car le personnage, dont la couronne et le sceptre sont décorés d’une fleur de lys, est vêtu à la manière d’un roi mérovingien.
Le Christ-Roi:
Le Christ-Roi est un concept christologique, qui évoque la royauté, la domination ou pouvoir de Jésus-Christ sur toute la création, « créé par Dieu » Le terme « roi » pour symboliser la puissance qui vient de la tradition hébraïque. La royauté était dans l'Ancien Testament la forme de gouvernement la plus courante du peuple d'Israël. L'expression Christ-Roi désigne ainsi l'une des fonctions ou offices du Christ, aux côtés de la fonction de la prêtrise et de la prophétie. L'expression se retrouve ainsi dans plusieurs passages bibliques. On distingue en outre le règne de grâce, ici-bas et qui se rapporte à l' église militante du règne de gloire, qui se rapporte à l' église triomphante laquelle rassemble ceux qui sont au paradis. Eusèbe de Césarée est l'un des premiers à avoir formalisé cette distinction entre les trois offices christiques : « Le véritable Christ, le Verbe divin et céleste, est le seul souverain prêtre de l'univers, le seul roi de toute la création, le seul chef des prophètes de son Père.
